The Red Yucca is one of the more beautiful members of the aloe family (NOT a member of the yucca family), with red flowers (some yellow varieties) which bloom, starting in June, for months on long racemes, reaching up to 6 feet. Green strappy leaves are evergreen. Prefers better soil than many of its xeric neighbors the cacti and yucca, happily drought tolerant, full sun. With a proper surrounding seed bed, will self sow, but never invasive here in Virginia. Bees, hummingbirds, butterflies enjoy it while deer and rabbits avoid it. Flowers late spring throughout summer.
