Variegated Japanese Forest Grass

             Japanese forest grass grows well, but slowly, in shade and semi-shade, in full sun it will burn.  Dies back in winter. Grows in a wide variety of soils and is semi drought tolerant as seen from that grown on slopes in these gardens. Zones 5-9.  Spreads slowly via rhizomes with no evidence of seeding from its small, not noteworthy flowers. Deer and rabbits ignore it. ‘Aureola’ is a variegated form of the green species.  ‘All Gold’ is another form which grows well in our region.
